During the winter months, the ski resorts of the Ioannina region attract large numbers of tourists from Greece and its neighbouring countries. In the Pindos mountains, there are three ski resorts (Karakoli, Profitis Ilias, and Anilio – Zigos), where people can enjoy the slopes and the chalets, the chair-lifts and the incredible views, not forgetting the delicious cuisine.
The mountain refuges of the area, where groups and individual walkers can choose to spend some quality time in magical surroundings, are filled with lush green landscapes and fresh clean air. If you are not fond of climbing, you can take a trip to the local market, where you can stock up and sample the famous traditional local products.
Here visitors can engage in numerous sporting activities, such as water skiing and boating on the famous lake at Ioannina, model aircraft, canoeing, kayaking, and rafting on the Arachthos River and other water-based tourist destinations.
Other very popular activities include canyoning, which continues to attract new participants across Europe, horse riding, climbing and sea-kayaking. The natural wealth of the region encourages mountain biking and cycling, mountain skiing and hiking, and any form of exploration will reward you with new discoveries along the less well-trodden footpaths of the county.
Our recommendation: Paragliding is a great way to get to know the area – from above!
