GUIDE FOR THE MUNICIPALITY OF Central Tzoumerka
Tzoumerka is a large mountain range in southern Pindos. The area is part of the Tzoumerka, Peristeri and Arachthos Gorge National Park. Its famous villages with their water-mills and mineral water springs offer authentic, traditional hospitality.
An area steeped in history, a land soaked with the blood of the 1821 warriors, and the scene of battles during World War II and the Greek Civil War. The area is also home to monasteries and churches which date back to the time of the Despotate. The seat of the Municipality is Vourgareli, an aristocratic stone-built village. There are Folk Art Museums in Kypseli and Agnanta. At Katarrakti you can visit the Agia Aikaterini Monastery and enjoy the sight of the waterfall, which tumbles down from a height of 70 meters. Athamanio, Theodoriana, Kostilata and the dramatic double waterfall at Souda, are a breathe of life, refreshing body and soul. The river Arachthos is ideal for rafting, kayaking, canyoning and flying-fox. There are National Park Information Centres in Vourgareli and Agnanta.
