GUIDE FOR THE MUNICIPALITY Nikolaos Skoufas
A historic municipality, bearing the name of the founder of the Filiki Eteria (Society of Friends), Nikolaos Skoufas, who was born in Komboti. The village honours his memory every July with the Skoufaika festival events.
The seat of the municipality is Peta, which is famous for the battle of 1822, where Greeks and their Philhellene supporters were slaughtered. There is a folk arts and crafts museum in the square.
You can also visit Neochori, where there is a riverside park with a beautiful unobstructed view of the Arachthos River. Kopraina, an ideal spot for bird-watching, was once the port of Arta. Walk to the Lighthouse Museum, located in the old customs buildings, which are now the Arachthos Environmental Education Centre, and visit the Museum of Fisheries and Natural History.
