Guide for the Municipality of Filiates
This is an area full of light, dressed in different colours for every season.Mountains, rivers and trails offer the visitor a once-in-a-lifetime experience accompanied by the heady scent of sage, thyme and linden. The seat of the Municipality is Filiates, which used to be the commercial and administrative centre of the region.
The area ends up at the beach at Sagiada, popular for its fresh fish, and the picturesque beaches of Strovili and Keramidi. Enjoy hiking in the Kalamas gorge and delta, an important wetland with rich biodiversity.
While you’re here in this beautiful countryside, it is worth visiting the traditional villages, the famous monasteries of Panagia Giromeri, Agios Georgios Kamitsiani and Agios Minas at Kokkino Lithari, wonderful examples of Post-Byzantine architecture, as well as the stone fountains and watermills in the area. Here you will find the archaeological site of Gitani, the capital of the ‘Priory of Thesprotians’. You can visit the folk arts and crafts museums at Finiki and Tsamanta.
For walkers, there is also the cobbled path at Langari, the Palia Sagiada trail, the narrow gorges at Koziaka and Langavista.
