Hiking Route Dimokastro to Prapa-Mali Beach

A very special hiking route awaits alternative holiday enthusiasts who wish to combine beautiful natural country with the seaside! Here Perdika Thesprotias is the ideal choice for that unique excursion that the most discerning visitors are always on the look out for! So head to this beautiful corner of Epirus, where green is predominant and you can breathe in the cool air of the sea. We’re aiming for the well-known beach of Karavostasi, near the village of Perdika on the coast.

The area is easy to reach whether you’re staying in one of the other seaside villages or if you’re in Ioannina – from there you can take the Egnatia Odos National Road in the direction of Igoumenitsa, and follow the signs.

Before you start out, it is a good idea to have contacted one of the accredited organisers of outdoor activities to advise you and which have appropriately qualified guides who can accompany you on your hike.  Having organised your excursion, you can start from the beautiful beach Karavostasi and walk up the hill where you will find the ancient Dimokastro, a city that flourished in Hellenistic times. The view of the Ionion Sea from this point is beyond words! Having enjoyed the vast expanse of the sea, you can walk across the archaeological site, once a city full of life, and continue the hike along the path leading to the beautiful secluded beach of Prapa Mali, where you should not fail to take advantage of the opportunity to enjoy a refreshing swim in the crystal blue Ionian sea.

Having rested awhile after this amazing experience, you can follow the path back to Karavostasi, and from there by car, up the hill to Perdika and the traditional tavernas in the beautiful square, to try local delicacies and fresh fish!

info: The hike takes about 3 hours, and the distance travelled is 6km.
